Career Prospects

The Law graduates of this programme will have a wide range of career prospects, including employment in judicial work, procuratorial work, becoming a lawyer, and other related legal careers. Students will receive intensive professional training including the development of practical skills in order to build excellent prospects for career and employment progression.

This programme is designed to meet the employment recruitment needs of international law firms, legal institutions, and multinational companies through providing Chinese law graduates with outstanding English level who are highly attractive to recruiters. There are two central features of this programme. First, in the context of globalization, English law is generally preferred to when dealing with complex issues of international business transactions. It is increasingly evident that the students will need to be equipped with appropriate legal capacity to address the importance of solving such cross-border commercial disputes through the British courts and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms of the Commission. Second, we seek to equip students with a professional legal English proficiency in order to be competent in the foreign legal professional needs in a complicated international legal environment. According to the previous job orientation of Coventry University Law graduates, many students have found employment in leading organisations of law related professions, including the British Legal Affairs Ombudsman, Shoosmiths law firms, corporate legal department of Tesco, and Keoghs law firm.

Throughout the Law courses, the cultivation of students' capability also helps the students to engage in other professions such as finance, energy, logistics, or to continue their study at postgraduate level. Graduates may also find consultancy work providing legal services based on their own legal knowledge, analytical ability, and communication skills.

At present, China has a very strong position as of the leading global economies, so the current priority is to foster a new generation of Chinese law makers and enhance their ability in the international legal profession so that they can play an important role in international legal practice. One of the critical links is to immerse the Chinese law students in a real Legal English teaching environment, enabling them to fully integrate the professional knowledge and legal tradition of civil law and common law, and develop critical thinking to be able to find solutions for complicated international business disputes.
